(BEIJING, August 14) -- Laoshan Bicycle Moto Cross (BMX) Venue, which will host the first ever Olympic BMX competition of the Olympic history in 2008, has been completed recently.

Located at Shijingshan District in West Beijing, the bowl-shaped Laoshan BMX Venue covers an area of 1.98 hectares, has a floor space of 3,399 square meters and contains 3,396 seats. BMX cyclists will compete at the bottom of this huge "bowl".

It is difficult to find two identical BMX tracks in the world, because they are designed according to the current levels of the sport, which is advancing continuously. the UCI experts found the best way to design the track mingling with the natural feature of Laoshan Mount and to ensure athletes will maintain speed and facilitate their stunts. The entire track is downhill with a 4 m decline.

There are separate male and female tracks that cross at some points and the latter is slightly short than the former. Additionally, an extra layer of asphalt will be added to the bends in the track with consideration to the athletes' safety.

In 2003, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) voted to include BMX in the competition program of the 2008 Olympic Games and the Laoshan BMX venue will be used for the first time with the Good Luck Beijing 2007 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup competition this August.
